2 days of epic powder and 1 visit to the hospital

Whistler has been getting absolutely hammered with powder this November, making what might be the best mountain opening of all time. I skied two days of waist deep pow before taking myself out on a pillow line yesterday afternoon. I never knew the expression "getting your bell rung" was just something you say when you hit your head, but this time it sounded like a giant fire station bell getting hit with a hammer. 1 trip to the hospital, 4 stitches, and a concussion later I'm enjoying my time watching movies on the couch for a few days. And with 74cms of snow in the past 24 hours it's not easy to be here right now.

Absinthe Films' "Neverland" Whistler Premiere

On friday night in Whistler, Absinthe films rolled into town to show off their latest effort, "Neverland." Annie Boulanger, Marie-France Roy, DCP and Dan Brisse were in attendance, throwing out mad prizes and signing posters for the fans. DCP told me that the film should actually be called "Always Land," because that's what they've been doing all season, stomping so many tricks in the deepest pow. That being said, the video was off the hook and everyone left the two sold out shows a fiend for winter.

As well as the amazing video I really appreciate Absinthe's effort to help the environment, by handing out prizes to people who skated, biked, or walked to the event, and to people who were using reusable bottles. One chick with a small environmental footprint left the show with one of DCP's personal boards from the film.

Neverland is a top notch video with legendary snowboarding, filming, editing, and music.

Film review: "Tyson" the documentary

I just watched the 2009 documentary "Tyson," and it was great from start to end. It's an amazing collection of footage of one of the greatest athletes of our time. Mike also opens up about the most personal issues, from being arrested 35 times by the age of 13, to drugs, women, an std, jail, and his deranged psyche. I highly recommend this movie. This clip isn't from the film, but shows how Iron Mike was also one of the greatest hype men in boxing, whether intentionally or not. "My style is impetuous. My defense is impregnable, and I'm just ferocious. I want your heart. I want to eat his children..." Brilliant!

Last week I shot two bar events for Whistler Brewing Co.(Good Beer...Drink Some). A wednesday night party at Buffalo Bills was off the hook, but my favorite was the world premiere of Aaron LaRocque's mountian bike film, "What's Next," which went down on Friday night at The Longhorn Saloon. The video was sick and the party was one of the best I've ever seen.

Director Aaron LaRocque and athletes Casey Groves, Brendan Howie, and Jordan Mercer were stoked after the film ran.
